I’m 55 and began playing golf in 2020 by partaking in Ange Tatts Ladies Beginners Golf Lessons. Great way to start!
Unfortunately COVID got in the way a few weeks after completing my lessons and I didn’t play again things settled down in 2023.
I participated in another of Ange’s Ladies Beginners Lesson February 2023 and was determined to get a handicap quickly. I got a handicap at the end of March 2023 and tried to play once a week on Wednesdays in the Ladies Competition. This required a change to my work hours and thankfully my employer helped enable this.
In 2024 became disgruntled at work, took a gap year, started playing golf at least twice a week and haven’t looked back! I also didn’t return to work 😉
I don’t practice much between rounds, something I’m determined to change soon.
One of the reasons I began playing golf was to spend more time with my husband as he’s an avid golfer 🏌🏻♀️
Ive found golf to be a great way to be engaged in an outdoor activity that’s both social and physical. It’s a great walk - regardless of what Mark Twain said!
I get a thrill out of hitting a good shot. The feel of perfect contact, the sound it makes leaving the club and the sight of my ball going higher and further than I images is exhilarating. It keeps me coming back for more even when the exact opposite of what I described above occurs 🙄😬 (a bit too frequently for my liking!)
I have found a wonderful group of women that I’ve connected with over golf. We talk about everything and anything whilst playing, enjoy many a laugh (I’ve been told you can hear where we are on the course by following our laughter) and often enjoy a meal and drink after our round.
Golf can be as competitive as you want it to be or as relaxed and as casual as you want it to be. There are so many playing formats and realistically you’re playing against the course so you can have a great time playing with people with varying handicaps.
You are never too old to start. I look forward to seeing you out there soon. 😉
