Kerry Cleary
Womens Golf Mentor
During COVID I was looking for something new to do, having played mostly team sports throughout my life.
I started my golfing journey through Ange Tatts Women’s Clinics in 2021. I did two clinics in 2021 and another one in 2022. These clinics are so much fun and after the lesson you get to socialise with everyone for a drink and platter. During a couple of the clinics we did “Tips and Sips” which was fun. On every 3rd hole you had a drink or a Tip (new rule).
After the clinics had finished I started playing the Ambrose Beginners golf on a Friday and had a hit with other ladies from the clinic, also having a mentor helped with rules and etiquette. I am still learning new rules.
In 2023 I started in the 9 hole competition for six months before transitioning to the 18 hole competition after gaining more confidence and I could hit the ball better.
All the ladies are welcoming, and everyone is off a different handicap. You are only out there against yourself, and it doesn’t matter what everyone else is off. You don’t feel out of place or judged.
There are now different competitions for ladies throughout the week. Even on the weekends.
It can be scary at the start but after a while it gets easier.
I now play 2-3 times per week and play with different ladies throughout the week. We talk about anything, even including golf. It’s very social and I have made a lot of new friends.
